ALAN VIGIL AT WORK ON NEW ALBUM
Los Angeles, CA – Acoustic artist Alan Vigil has announced that he is
working on a new album. In the meanwhile, his release “Sometimes”
continues to sell very well. In fact, it’s nearly sold out.
Songs like “Candelas” help understand why. As with all of Vigil’s
songs, the guitar does all the speaking, but on this one, it’s
speaking in another language. Which is to say that this song is
Spanish-flavored instrumental – and it’s actually inspired by a guitar.
“I had been playing a flamenco guitar made by the Candelas guitar
company,” explains Vigil. “It sounded great but wouldn’t stay in tune
for recording because it was old and was abused before it got to me.”
Serendipity also plays a role in the song, as far as Vigil perceives
things. “I named the song after the guitar even though it wasn’t used
on the CD. Plus, since it means ‘candles’ … well, the song kind of
flickers in and out like a candle in a breeze.”
While every song on “Sometimes” resonates with its own personality –
Vigil is a versatile composer – it still reflects the entire album by
showcasing the nimble playing and rich songwriting exhibited by all of
his work.
Vigil first began the trek of a professional musician in 1978 while
still a 14-year-old. That’s when he started his first band, which
stayed together – “in one form or another” – until he was in his 20s.
Also during that time, Vigil worked much with the community theater
and spent a short amount of time in college. Surprisingly, his
professors encouraged Vigil to hit the road, feeling that he would
learn more there than in classes in the small college he was attending.
Vigil toured the United States in a power trio until that group broke
up. And for 13 years of his career, Vigil played with a popular duo by
the name of Little Fish, which opened for major acts and also gigged
at weddings and clubs.
Eventually, he decided to go it alone, and he turned to acoustic
stylings. The acoustic scene, he says, was prominent in Colorado and,
looking back, he believes it to have been one of the best in the
country. “I learned a lot during that time,” he says. (He also notes
that once having had a roommate who played with String Cheese Incident
was educational – “Plus it helped me realize that with some hard work
and an open mind, a guy can make a living with his art.”)
But Vigil isn’t a solo-only performer. Besides his one-man act, he
also plays in a jazz group, Top Shelf. In addition, he teaches guitar.
Vying for licensing opportunities, Vigil is also working to expand
his repertoire to include more commercial work.
He is currently working with A&R Select, the premier A&R firm based
out of Los Angeles, CA. More information is available by visiting
